Finding a lip balm that isn't full of chemicals (we do ingest our lip balm, right?), doesn't cost a fortune and actually works is a bit of a challenge. After a good bit of trial and error, I've finally found a homemade recipe that is easy and produces a lip balm that feels really, really good!
INGREDIENTS
1 T coconut oil
1 T olive or hemp oil
2 T grated beeswax
2 t shea butter
6-8 drops orange essential oil (food grade)
Add 1-2 cups water in a sauce pan over medium heat. Place a washcloth in the bottom of the pan (yes, in the water) and add a large glass measuring cup to the pan so that it sits on top of the washcloth. Note: you can use any double boil method you like but I have found this to be my favorite option.
In the measuring cup, add the oils, beeswax and butter. Heat until melted; stir to combine.
Remove from heat; add essential oil and stir to combine.
Slowly and carefully pour into storage containers. I like to reuse plastic tubs, tins or small glass jars. Allow to cool before capping. Enjoy! Your lips will thank you!
Note: While you can certainly try out a variety of essential oils, I recommend only using a food grade essential oil for lip balm.
